SEMICONDUCTOR TEST CONSORTIUM EXPANDS REACH IN ASIA
Signs MOU with China Beijing Semiconductor Industry Association; adds TEL to Steering Committee, joining existing members Intel, Motorola and Advantest
SAN DIEGO, Calif., April 16, 2004 — The Semiconductor Test Consortium (STC), Inc., today announced two key developments that will significantly expand the consortium’s presence and reach in Asia. The STC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the China Beijing Semiconductor Industry Association (CBSIA) to collaborate on individual and joint activities in Beijing aimed at promoting STC’s charter and driving the execution of its Open Architecture test initiative in China. The anticipated result of this joint effort is to bring significant process and cost benefits to test system users and test system vendors in China, as well as worldwide. The CBSIA, comprising 16 founding Chinese enterprises that receive guidance and support from the Beijing Economic Committee, serves as a government-industry liaison and is chartered with hastening the development of the semiconductor industry in China.
The STC also announced that Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL), the second-largest supplier of semiconductor production equipment in the world and a leader in wafer probers for 300mm wafers and other geometries, has recently joined the consortium’s Steering Committee leadership team. TEL’s role on the committee will include the development of rational interfaces between OPENSTAR systems and probers. Existing Steering Committee members include company representatives from Intel, Motorola and Advantest.
